Pig Production Specialist

This key role is responsible for the daily care, health, and maintenance of all sows and piglets to assure optimum productivity. This person will assist where needed working with animals and light facility repair and maintenance. 

Employment Locations by County: Crawford, Delaware, Marion, Richland, Wyandot

    • Adhere to bio-security procedures at all times and immediately report to management any violation 

    • Adhere to animal well-being procedures at all times and know reporting procedures when an incident occurs 

    • Adhere to safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate safety equipment (PPE) for appropriate tasks and work in a safe manner 

    • Care and management of animals to ensure that:

      • Animals are properly fed

      • Water is available

      • Sick animals are treated properly and timely

      • Animal conditions are evaluated, maintained, and recorded in accordance with record-keeping procedures 

    • Care and management of facilities to ensure that:

      • Fans, curtains, heaters, and other equipment are working properly

      • Ventilation equipment is adjusted to provide the proper environment

      • Facilities are kept clean, including power washing and disinfecting 

    • Procure, administer, and dispense medications and vaccinations according to protocol 

    • Perform heat detection, artificial insemination, and pregnancy checks 

    • Monitor and assist in the farrowing process 

    • Process, vaccinate, and castrate piglets at appropriate times 

    • Properly handle and store all medication and chemicals 

    • Wean pigs according to protocol 

    • Follow dead removal protocols while ensuring safety and bio-security procedures as well 

    • Practice safe animal handling/moving 

    • Provide feedback to department heads and farm manager 

    • Basic math and reading

    • Knowledge of swine husbandry and basic maintenance preferred

    • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

    • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time

    • Valid Driver’s License - with acceptable driving record

    • Ability to pass a drug screen and/or background check

    • Position involves a great deal of physical activity

    • Exposure to dust, minimal odor, chemicals and pharmaceuticals

    • Work mainly indoors, but temperatures fluctuate with seasons

    • 45 hour work week (requires flexibility in hours during health and staffing challenges

    • Monday - Friday: 6:00am - 2:00/2:30pm (may vary)

    • Weekends: Every 3rd; minimum of 7.5 hours/day

  • Total monetary package: $39,780.00 Annual Salary 

    $7,027.56 Insurance

    • 45 hours per week, which includes every third weekend 

    • Your starting compensation will be $765 per week, which is equivalent to an annual amount of $39,780.00. 

    • This position is considered exempt for the purposes of federal wage-hour laws, meaning you will not be eligible for overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in any given workweek. You will be eligible, however, for pay increases based on job performance and meeting production goals 

    Additional Benefits:

    • Health, dental, vision, life insurance the first of the month after 30 days (value of $7,027.56) annually for single coverage). Our Team Member Services Department can provide you with information regarding the cost of coverage for any dependents you would like to add to your policy 

    • 401K plan available, Company matches 1/2 of team member contribution up to 3% of team member salary

      Example:

      • Contribute 2% - Company match 1% 

      • Contribute 4% - Company match 2% 

      • Contribute 6% - Company match 3% 

      • Contribute 8% - Company match 3% 

      • Contribute 9% - Company match 3% 

    • 6 holidays 

    • 5 personal days (only 2 of which may be used in the first 90 days of employment, without a doctor’s excuse) 

    • A day off for every weekend worked (approx. 17 days/year) 

    • 5 vacation days after 6 months of employment and then vacation is earned in subsequent years in the following manner:

      • Years 2-5: 10 days/year 

      • Years 6-10: 15 days/year 

      • Years 11 +: 20 days/year
